The Marangu Route, known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” is one of the most popular paths to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. It offers a gradual ascent, comfortable hut accommodations, and stunning views of the mountainâ unique ecosystems.

Your adventure begins at Marangu Gate, where you’ll complete park registration before starting your trek through the lush rainforest. Along the way, you might spot colobus monkeys and exotic birds. After a steady climb, you’ll reach Mandara Hut, where you’ll spend the night.

Leaving Mandara Hut, the trail opens up into the moorland zone, offering incredible views of Mawenzi Peak. The path gradually ascends to Horombo Hut, where you’ll rest and enjoy breathtaking sunset views.
Optional Hike: Mawenzi Ridge (4,310m)

This is a crucial acclimatization day to help your body adjust to the high altitude. You can take a short hike to Mawenzi Ridge for panoramic views before returning to Horombo Hut for relaxation and preparation for the next stage.

The trail ascends through sparse alpine desert landscapes with towering views of both Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. After a long but rewarding hike, you’ll reach Kibo Hut, your base for the summit push.
Hiking Time: 12-16 hours (Summit: 6-8 hours, Descent: 6-8 hours)
Distance: 22 km / 13.5 miles
Habitat: Arctic Zone to Moorland

Your summit attempt begins at midnight! Trekking under the starlit sky, you’ll climb through Gilman’s Point (5,685m) before reaching Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating your achievement, you’ll descend to Horombo Hut for a well-earned rest.

The final stretch takes you back through the lush rainforest to Marangu Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificate before transferring back to your hotel.
