The Marangu Route, known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” is one of the most popular paths to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. It offers a gradual ascent, comfortable hut accommodations, and stunning views of the mountain’s unique ecosystems.

Tour Plan

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Moshi. Attend a pre-trek briefing with your guide to discuss safety, equipment, and the itinerary.

Drive to the Marangu Gate for registration and start the trek through lush rainforest. Enjoy the sights of colobus monkeys and vibrant birdlife as you ascend to Mandara Hut. Optional hike to Maundi Crater for views of northern Tanzania and Kenya. Trekking time: 4–5 hours.

Leave the rainforest and enter the heath and moorland zone. The trail offers expansive views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Arrive at Horombo Hut for your overnight stay. Trekking time: 5–6 hours.

Climb past giant groundsels and unique alpine vegetation as you approach Kibo Hut. The landscape becomes more rugged as you move closer to the summit base camp. Spend the afternoon resting and preparing for the midnight ascent. Trekking time: 5–6 hours.

Begin the final ascent around midnight, reaching Gilman’s Point (5,681m) on the crater rim. Continue to Uhuru Peak, Africa's highest point, to witness an unforgettable sunrise. Celebrate your achievement before descending to Kibo Hut for lunch and then to Horombo Hut for an overnight rest. Trekking time: 10–14 hours.

Descend through the heath and rainforest zones to Marangu Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificate. Transfer back to Moshi for a celebratory dinner and overnight stay. Trekking time: 6–7 hours.
